Giving Tuesday 2026: small ways to give on December 1

Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. In 2026 that’s December 1. You don’t need a lot of money to take part.

What is Giving Tuesday?

It’s a day for giving that started in 2012 as a counterweight to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Now it’s a global movement. Charities run campaigns, and plenty of people use the day to give in their own way.

Giving Tuesday ideas for $5 or less

  • Send $1 to five different people’s goals.
  • Cover a coffee or a bus fare for someone.
  • Share a goal or a local fundraiser you believe in.

Ideas for $20 or more

  • Pay off a school lunch balance. Many districts accept these.
  • Buy a grocery gift card for a food pantry or a family you know.
  • Pick one person’s goal and help them get a real step closer.

Free ways to take part

Volunteer an hour, write a thank-you note to someone who helped you, or check on a neighbor. Giving Tuesday is about generosity, not just money.
